If you're here, it means you know you need to move. You know how important exercise is for breast cancer patients and survivors. Not just for the immediate benefits, but for survival.
I know you'd rather be at the gym, out for a run, playing tennis, on a vacation with friends...
well... anywhere other than on a website talking about breast cancer rehab.
But you're here and that's amazing.
Because it means you want to fight to get your life back - your active life - and you know you can't do that when
it's exhausting just trying to get dressed
you wonder if your shoulders will ever be able to move without pain
you haven't had a decent night's sleep since diagnosis
and your chest muscles are so tight it feels like they might rip if you stretch to far
But your research, your hours on google, review of all the studies, and all the info from your Oncologist, Surgeon, family doc, and other survivors means you know how important it is to exercise.
And that the sooner you start moving, the more benefits you'll get and the better you'll feel.
The body goes through a very specific healing process. After surgery, after treatment, your body needs to recover, it needs rehab.
And movement is the key to reaching your best potential.
And not just for the physical benefits, but for mental health, self worth, empowerment, and to decrease risk of recurrence.
That's a lot of impact just from a little thing called movement.
What's I've found in my work with breast cancer patients is that the fear of moving can be even greater than the benefits.
And that's where I step in.
Breast cancer patients have special needs after surgery and during treatment.
Any my decades of work in cancer rehabilitation combined with my education as a Registered Kinesiologist has given me the unique and amazing ability to help breast cancer patients from their weakest points during chemo to being able to run competitively.
The key is the foundations of movements and the progression of programming to get back to an active and rewarding lifestyle.
Too many times breast cancer patients believe they "just need to get stronger" because they feel weak and exhausted.
Let me tell you that this is a crucial mistake. And it's why research is filled with survivors who have decreased shoulder mobility, lymphedema, and continued pain years and years after treatment has ended.
The Foundations First Framework works with the actual healing parameters of the body.
As the body heals, scar tissue forms and mobility is the first place to focus your efforts. That's the Focus of Your Next Move.
Your Next Move makes all the difference because it is the first step in the rehabilitative process. As scar tissue is forming, Phase 1 works to ensure tissue pliability.
This is when it's easiest to lay down the groundwork for future success with joint movement and getting back to your activities and sports.
Work then beings with muscle mobilizations. Muscles tighten because of the changes in your body posture and when they're not being stretched on a regular basis. After breast cancer surgery, gentle therapeutic movement patterns are needed to align and stretch.
It's important to make sure movement is created along the line of pull and without stress on your joints, especially the shoulders and upper back.
Joint mobility works along side muscle stretching. It's important to create fluid pain-free joint motions to reduce pulling and pain with increasing activities.
These are the phases for Your Next Move: guiding your through with step-by-step videos through each portion of improving your mobility, decreasing your pain, and getting your body into alignment and ready to step up the activities.
Your body transitions as it heals and you feel energized and ready for the next step instead of exhausted and overwhelmed.
That's the key that makes Your Next Move the right choice when you want to get your body safely back to exercise.
Don't get me wrong, Your Next Move is not a walk in the park.
We've got a lot of work to do but I promise it will be fun, rewarding, and you'll feel safe, secure, and motivated during each phase.
And for me, my best clients are knowledgeable clients. So you're going to know the why behind the movements which does two things:
1. takes away the fear
2. build empowerment
